Ujian Akhir Semester 1/I (Satu) atau UAS Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk Kelas 9 (Sembilan/IX) SMP/MTs dirancang sebagai bahan evaluasi bagi para peserta didik dari aspek akademik. Dengan demikian, para peserta didik diharapkan mampu menyerap materi dari pelajaran Bahasa Inggris dan serapan belajar tersebut tercermin dari hasil ujian nanti.

Dibandingkan dengan kurikulum pada saat saya pribadi menempuh pendidikan pada jenjang SMP, materi Bahasa Inggris sekarang relatif lebih mudah. Zaman dahulu, momok yang sering ditakutkan oleh para siswa atau peserta didik adalah materi tata bahasa ata grammar. Namun sekarang, grammar tidak terlalu ditekankan. Materi Bahasa Inggris sekarang lebih ditekankan pada aspek pragmatik lebih dari aspek teoritis.

Untuk dapat memperoleh hasil yang maksimal dalam mengerjakan ujian akhir semester mapel Bahasa Inggris tentu saja dibutuhkan persiapan yang baik dan matang. Para peserta didik harus mempelajari kembali materi dari awal hingga akhir. Untuk materi sampai dengan ulangan harian III, para peserta didik hanya perlu menyegarkan ingatan kembali. Dengan demikian, mestinya beban belajar untuk menghadapi UAS ini tidak terlalu berat mengingat para peserta didik hanya perlu belajar materi yang benar-benar-benar baru pada materi yang telah diajarkan pada ulangan harian III.
